Zachary Koo

My name is Zachary. I recently completed my forth year in University of Calgary, studying Biological Science. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, but immigrated to Calgary in Canada when I was grade 7. I have many hobbies, some physical hobbies include playing badminton, skiing, martial arts and volleyball. Some less physical hobbies such as watching anime, reading manga, playing board games and instruments. I enjoy exploring new hobbies, trying new things and trying to learn as much as possible in my life. Taking Japanese classes was one of the new things I have explored. I had only studied Japanese for two semesters, but Japanese is definitely one of my favorite class and I am really excited to learn more during this program.

I had been to Japan a couple of times before, but never been to Tokyo before. I really enjoy Japanese lifestyle and culture, and would love to experience it first hand during this program. Most of my favorite food are originated from Japan, such as sushi, tonkatsu, onigiri and many others. As I stated before, I LOVE anime. I watch anime almost everyday, and I would feel strange and incomplete if I didn’t watch anime that day. Some of my favorite anime are “3-がつのライオン”, “Cross game” and “しがつはきみのうそ”.  I would highly recommend those anime if you are also an anime fan or never watched anime before!

Throughout my whole life, I have been so focused on my education, work and other things, and I felt like I took a lot of things I had for granted. I wanted to see the world myself and learn to appreciate the world I live in. I am very excited to see what this group study program will offer me, and would love to make the most out of this life changing experience!
